Designing a Tropical Oasis: The Story Behind Sunkissed Sanctuary Design Project with Natural Materials

The storyteller

The name "Aastha," echoing with the Sanskrit words for "faith" and "devotion," transcends mere aesthetics and delves into the realm of the spiritual. It signifies a home that resonates with the whispers of the universe, a sanctuary where one aligns with the flow of cosmic energy.

This ground + 2 + terrace bungalow isn't just a transformation of bricks and mortar; it's a metamorphosis of spirit. The old building, like a seed of hope, has blossomed into a vibrant space brimming with light and life. Natural elements take center stage, from sun-drenched skylights to Kota and Jaisalmer flooring that whispers timeless elegance.

The design prioritizes natural light and open spaces, mirroring the expansive nature of the universe. The ample floor space invites uninhibited movement and playful moments, while the natural light that floods the space, thanks to the strategically placed skylight on the top floor, creates a sense of openness and connection to the natural world.

Natural Material Marvels

Aastha is a symphony of textures and natural materials, each material chosen with meticulous intent to enhance the sensory experience and enrich the space..

Earthy Elegance: A Foundation of Stone

Step inside Aastha, and your feet are greeted by a timeless symphony of colors and textures. Kota and Jaisalmer stone, timeworn yet ever timeless, form the canvas of every floor. Kota, with its robust nature and cool embrace, grounds the space with its earthy palette. Jaisalmer, like desert sunbeams captured in stone, dances with light, adding a touch of golden luxury. Together, they create a foundation that is both beautiful and functional, a lasting testament to the enduring magic of nature.

Sunlight's Stage: Grey Sandstone

Grey Sandstone Architraves
Imagine sunlight, the golden protagonist in this tale of Aastha, filtering through windows framed by exquisite grey sandstone architraves. These aren't mere borders; they're stages where light performs a captivating dance. Each striation in the stone, whispered by time and carved by nature, catches a ray, transforming the window into a portal of sun-kissed drama.

The sandstone, hailing from the sun-drenched quarries of Rajasthan, is more than just a pretty face. Its subtle grey hues, like rain clouds pregnant with possibility, add a touch of earthy sophistication to the space. And beneath that beauty lies a warrior's heart. Durable and weather-resistant, it stands guard against the elements, ensuring the sun's show continues uninterrupted. Like a stoic audience member, the sandstone absorbs the warmth of the day, radiating it back into the room long after the sun dips below the horizon. These architraves become more than just frames; they become silent partners in the symphony of light and shadow that plays out within Aastha.

So, as you step through these sun-kissed gateways, remember, they're not just entrances; they're invitations to embrace the dance of light, the whispers of nature, and the enduring strength that lies within even the most delicate grain of sand.

Doors of Reverence

Sangwan Solid Wood Main Door

The entryways to each room stand as silent sentinels, crafted from the coveted Sangwan wood. This endangered Indian timber, prized for its deep golden hue, intricate grain patterns, and natural resistance to pests and decay, embodies luxury and longevity. Walking through a Sangwan door is an experience, a step into a space whispered by time and nature.

Symphony of Woods & Brass Brilliance

Each piece of furniture sings its own melody, crafted from a harmonious blend of oak, ash, walnut and teak. Brass accents dance throughout Aastha, like threads of sunlight woven into the fabric of the space. This versatile metal, chosen for its warmth, malleability, and antimicrobial properties, highlights furniture details, door handles, and light fixtures.

Temple Treasures

Aastha's heart beats in a temple bathed in sunlight. Vietnam marble, its delicate veins catching fire, becomes a canvas for a dazzling dance. Mother-of-pearl, like captured moonlight, twinkles amidst deep blue lapis lazuli, whispering tales of starlight and serenity. This mosaic masterpiece, kissed by sun and earth, transforms the space into a haven for reflection, a shimmering sanctuary where souls find solace and light finds a home.

Unbind Your Own Serenity

This isn't just a project; it's a philosophy. Aastha reminds us that a home is more than bricks and mortar; it's a sanctuary for the soul, a haven where hearts can truly be themselves. It's a space that embraces imperfections, laughs wholeheartedly, and celebrates life's simple joys. It's a testament to the transformative power of light, warmth, and human connection.
